Dissidenter fra Danmarks Kommunistiske Parti, der ønskede en uafhængig politisk platform i Danmark stiftede Socialistisk Folkeparti i 1959. Efter et jordskredsvalg ved folketingsvalget i 2007, rebrandede partiet sig selv som et moderne venstrefløjsparti med fokus på miljø, velfærd og lighed. Partiet påbegyndte også et tæt partnerskab med Socialdemokratiet, der kulminerede i 2011, da de efter folketingsvalget indgik i regering med Socialdemokratiet og Radikale Venstre. I begyndelsen af 2014 forlod SF koalitionen.

Siden valget i 2022 er SF det største parti i opposition til den socialdemokratisk ledede midterregering.

Together with the three Danish political parties, the Green Left, the Social Democratic Party and the Liberal Party, the DIPD Country Office in Myanmar cooperates with the political parties of Myanmar to support the democratic transition.

In Malawi the Liberal Party, the Socialist People's party and DIPD work together with DanChurchAid Malawi and two local organisations to implement a project with funding from the EU focusing on strengthening young womens political participation and influence. The project is called Young Women in Active Politics (YWAP) and as been extended to the end of August 2021 due to COVID19.

Green Left has worked together with the Movement for Socialism in Bolivia (MAS-IPSP) since 2014 and completed the final activities of the partnership in 2019. The partnership aimed to strengthen the internal democratic capacity building of MAS-IPSP. The final part of the partnership also focused on conflict management.
