Project start: 2023

The Danish Social Liberal Party and the Danish Conservative People’s Party are engaged in a partnership that aims to increase Nepalese youth's participation in political parties, promoting inclusivity and a thriving democracy.

Nepal's democratic history has been difficult, and the democracy is still fragile. b. Fortunately, Nepal’s democratic trajectory has improved since the last People’s Movement in 2006. Even though the elections have become relatively peaceful, Nepal’s democracy still faces challenges, including the need for broader representation. Therefore, it is key to support young politicians and focus on ensuring that parties are inclusive and engaging organisations. This is what this multiparty project aims to do.

The goal of the partnership is to increase Nepalese youth’s participation in political parties and to strengthen the inclusiveness of political parties among young people, thereby contributing to a stronger and more inclusive democracy. The partnership aims to enhance youth leadership skills and deepen multiparty collaboration among young people. Furthermore, the goal is to strengthen young people’s knowledge about various important issues, such as climate change.

The partnership organises leadership trainings at different levels. These trainings will reach 250 young politicians, the majority of whom are from remote districts within the different political parties in Nepal. The trainings will cover topics such as climate change, multiparty collaboration, good governance, communication, and gender equality. To further develop multiparty cooperation, the partnership supports enhancing the multiparty dimension in these training events held by the parties. The partnership aims to empower young politicians with knowledge and skills that are not easily accessible to them. In the long run, this will increase the number of competent young politicians, thereby strengthening political parties as democratic institutions. The goal is also to add significant value to cross-party cooperation and dialogue.
